The Power of Mineral Balancing
Ready to optimize your nutrition for mineral balance?
No matter what you have set out to accomplish with your health and nutrition, minerals are ESSENTIAL.
From your energy levels and hormone balancing to your sleep and mental health - minerals play a fundamental role.
We cannot manufacture minerals in the body. We MUST get them from our environment (i.e. from our FOOD)!
when minerals are out of balance, you may experience…
-
Minerals such as iodine and selenium are essential for thyroid hormone production, and imbalances can lead to a sluggish thyroid, resulting in hypothyroid symptoms like fatigue, weight gain, and cold sensitivity despite having “in-range” blood labs.
-
An array of minerals, including chromium, magnesium, and zinc, influence insulin sensitivity, metabolism, and appetite control, and imbalances can disrupt these processes, leading to weight loss resistance despite efforts.
-
Sodium, potassium, and magnesium play critical roles in regulating blood pressure levels, and imbalances can contribute to hypertension and an increased risk of cardiovascular issues.
-
Minerals like chromium and magnesium are crucial for insulin function and glucose metabolism, and imbalances can lead to blood sugar fluctuations, insulin resistance, and difficulty in managing blood sugar levels.
-
Imbalances in minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and zinc can impact hormone regulation and inflammation levels, contributing to PMS symptoms and hormonal irregularities associated with PCOS.
-
Numerous minerals are essential components of the enzymes involved in energy production (ATP synthesis) within the body's cells, and their deficiencies or imbalanced ratios can lead to decreased energy levels and persistent fatigue.
-
Digestive woes, immune dysfunction, mental health, brain fog, musculoskeletal issues, ETC. Remember, minerals are involved in hundreds of bodily functions.
Q. If I eat a balanced diet and a variety of fruits and vegetables, I should be getting enough of every mineral, right?
The short answer, maybe! I hope so! Long answer - probably not. 😞
Unfortunately, our modern lifestyles and the soil health on Earth are likely to disrupt the delicate mineral balance. We are busy, stressed and overworked. The soils are often depleted of minerals or added back in as less biounavailable forms, creating a less nutrient dense grain, fruit or veggie. Think of it as getting less bang for your buck with each bite.
Here are some other common reasons minerals are not balanced:
Digestive inflammation or low nutrient absorption from food
Intake of processed foods
Exposure to heavy metals
Chronic stress
Medications
Blind supplementation
Breastfeeding / Pregnancy
HOW TO BALANCE YOUR MINERAL LEVELS
the essentials:
HTMA Testing
Test, don’t guess! Running an HTMA test is the best way to gain insight into your body’s current mineral levels and needs.
Diet & Lifestyle
Small, tailor-to-you adjustments in your food choices and lifestyle can bring about big improvements in how you feel day to day.
Accountability
Doing anything on your own is not easy. Support and guidance is key to creating new habits and making your health goals a reality.
HTMA IS LIKE A UNIQUE PERSONAL BLUEPRINT OF YOUR HEALTH.
Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA) is a functional test used to provide a unique cellular reading of the mineral and heavy metal levels in your body. By analyzing small samples of recent hair growth, you can get a snapshot of what your body has been exposed to and what it is eliminating through the hair. This data is valuable for prioritizing which diet and lifestyle strategies will be most effective for addressing your bio-individual needs.
KEY RESULTS:
-
METABOLIC TYPE
this rates how quickly your body is metabolizing energy and what macro ratios are ideal for you
-
MINERAL STATUS
this shows an overall snapshot of the major minerals in your body and if any are very high or low
-
HEAVY METAL EXCRETION
if you are being exposed to any specific heavy metals and whether your body is excreting (or storing) them
-
MINERAL RATIOS
all minerals affect each other to some degree, so these ratios highlight which systems need the most nutritional therapy support
What can you learn from an HTMA test?
Uncover Hidden Nutritional Imbalances
Traditional blood tests often provide a quick snapshot of your body's mineral status. HTMA testing, on the other hand, offers a comprehensive analysis over an extended period. By examining a small hair sample, HTMA testing reveals your mineral patterns over time, providing a more accurate representation of your overall nutritional health. This information is invaluable for identifying hidden imbalances and deficiencies that may be undermining your well-being.
Personalized Nutrition Recommendations
One of the most exciting aspects of HTMA testing is the ability for the practitioner to have deeper insight into the most impactful, personalized nutrition recommendations. Armed with the knowledge of your unique mineral profile, you can make targeted dietary choices to restore balance and enhance your well-being. It helps you identify foods rich in the minerals you lack and eliminate those that may contribute to imbalances.
Track Your Progress and Measure Success
HTMA testing can be an ongoing tool to track your progress on your health journey. Regular retesting (~3-4 months) allows you to monitor changes in your mineral levels and assess the effectiveness of your personalized nutrition and lifestyle choices. This feedback loop helps you fine-tune your approach and make adjustments as needed, ensuring you stay on the path to optimal health.

FAQs
-
A small hair sample taken from the back of the head near the scalp is collected. You can do this yourself or with the help of a friend. It is easy to do and you will not be able to notice any missing hair. The lab needs ~1 tsp of hair.
-
Yes, HTMA testing is reliable and accurate. ICP Mass Spectrometry is widely recognized by government and private agencies as the leading analytical method for mineral and heavy metal analysis. I use Trace Elements, a reputable lab that is one of the few labs that does NOT chemically wash hair samples (this is essential for accurate results).
-
It is recommend that your hair has been washed 8-10 times after using any hair dye or bleach OR you can wait to take the sample after your roots have grown out.
